reversing and stop controls

The provisions of this section of Part 2 in the 2002 BSS Standards are mandatory for non-private boats where applicable.

To assist control whilst manoeuvring, every boat must have an effective means of reversing which can be operated from the steering position. Boats manufactured before 16 June1998 are exempt from this part of this Standard. To ensure that your engine can be turned off in the event of an emergency, such as throttle or gear linkage failure, it's a good idea for the engine stop control to be located as near to your steering position as is practical.
